My deep recommendation is for a lighter front end IMAP client in front of Apple Mail as the archival system. While both are good programs, with EagleFiler getting the nod for simplicity, versatility and fair pricing (built by same developer as SpamSieve, Michael Tsai), neither offer the same kind of immediate access to archives to be able to reply to an old email like Apple Mail. None of the competition scale like this.įor this reason, Apple Mail remains my archive email client, having tried archiving in MailSteward Pro and EagleFiler. Literally Apple Mail can handle hundreds of thousands or millions of emails, including search, without breaking much of a sweat. Good point about the size of database which Apple Mail can handle. It never crashes, it never corrupts mailboxes. Nothing out there comes close to it in managing mail, keeping track of millions of emails, and just being solid. That said, I’ve tried many many clients over many many years, and Mail.app is what I use. You could just use an email application which doesn’t require storing your credentials with them. What’s particularly pernicious here is that there’s no need to store one’s email credential on anyone else’s server. I would not store my primary email credentials with a Ukrainian or a Nigerian company (to give two examples), unless I had done deep research on that company and it had a long track record of good security and ethical behaviour. ProtonMail would be an example of a company in the email space with such a secure track record. Even then I would look closely at who the founders are, their level of technical expertise and experience and their past track record. Countries like Switzerland or Canada have such a history. There are other jurisdictions where people and organizations historically have been untrustworthy.Īnd then there are organizations and countries with a long history of rule of law, prudence and privacy. Why don’t they make sense? An American company cannot be trusted (by law, they are unable to protect their customers’ privacy as they are compelled to do what secret courts tell them to do without disclosing the requests to the client or the public). People should go in to Spark with their eyes very wide open.Īlec, in a post-Snowden world your comments do not make sense. So I wouldn’t have an issue with Spark if Readdle didn’t force you to hand over your email credentials, i.e. I haven’t looked into the fouders of Readdle but I have seen dealt with their now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t weird pricing model on PDF Expert which is now subscription only on iOS. Readdle fails on location (Ukraine ranks right up at the top in terms of corruption and per-capita hacking/criminal activity). the built-in security (if the company loses your credentials to a disgruntled employee or a hacker, their good ethics don’t count). If it’s a foreign company, it depends on three variables: If it’s an American company, as reputable and of high character as the founders may be, they are vulnerable under the Patriot Act which requires them to hand over your credentials and not tell you or anyone else. I would think long and hard about allowing any company to store my email credentials. If you are okay with a Ukrainian private company storing your email credentials on their servers, good for you. Thank you for providing links with your comment. As it is false that Spark has a security problem regarding the stored credentials.

Each person's feed is unique: TikTok says factors taken into account include videos you have liked or shared and comments you’ve made video data such as hashtags and captions and your device and account settings. TikTok’s algorithm fuels the app’s recommendation system that determines which videos will appear on the For You page. While it’s normal for a video app to request camera and microphone access, “the privacy permissions also allow TikTok to secure detailed information about your location using GPS and other apps you’re running.” These privacy permissions can be accepted or rejected, but turning them off may limit the functionality of TikTok. TikTok also requests a number of permissions on your device, says Sherrod DeGrippo, vice president of threat research and detection at security company Proofpoint. “It would be extremely unusual for a for-profit business to not make for-profit uses of these things.” “The reason given is to help develop filters and recommendations, but there are much darker uses, including behavioural profiling and targeting,” Fielding says. This could potentially include your profile information and content you create even if you don’t share it with TikTok, contents of the clipboard, and typing patterns. It doesn’t really go into detail about what data and why.”īecause TikTok is not being specific about which data is going where, Fielding says you “have to assume it could be anything”. TikTok now has a kids-only mode and under 16 profiles are private by default.įor example, she says: “The privacy policy says TikTok Ireland and UK are the joint controllers but later it also says data may be shared with the rest of the corporate group. In 2019, the US Federal Trade Commission fined ByteDance $5.7 million for collecting information from under 13s in violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, leading to a similar investigation in the UK. Nearly half of all people on TikTok are aged between 16 and 24, and some are even younger. The app has come under fire for moderation and content issues, as well as its ability to influence through a powerful recommendations algorithm. Yet TikTok’s rapid rise has also led to regulatory and competitive scrutiny. Today, the social network has more than one billion users, double that of Snapchat and Twitter combined, with TikTok stars making up to $5 million a year on the platform. The result was TikTok, the wildly popular short video app that’s now one of the most downloaded apps in the world. In August 2018, Chinese company ByteDance bought video startup Musical.ly and fused it with another app. Vector illustration isolated on a white background. The piece blew up in the Project Cars community and sparked a heated discussion.īut to err is human, and to forgive divine. That one should not judge a game before it is released. It was at that time when our editor Marvin Miller wanted to believe that there was something good in everything. What was once a franchise that wanted to be a realistic simulation, now looked like it was trying to clone the likes of Need for Speed or Forza Motorsport. I almost bought the Obutto too and it looks pretty nice, but in the end went with Fanatec because I knew it would be sitting in a fairly prominent area of my house and it just looks nicer overall. Our editor Marvin Miller explains why he defended Project Cars 3 upon its release – and why he now thinks he was wrong.Īround a year ago, the esports racing community saw one of the biggest uproars in its history when Slightly Mad Studios revealed a first trailer and insights into their newest game Project Cars 3. However it's worth noting that the forward angle of the upper backrest does cause more fatigue in longer play sessions. I liked the Fanatec CSL Seat ( ) much better because of the lower seating position relative to the pedals and it felt more stable once you sat in it. I had a Playseat before and didn't care for it. Expensive, but I've been really happy with the whole setup. I believe I paid around $2000 for the whole cockpit including the seat and triple screen mounting hardware. For some reason I never got a notification. What hardware are you mounting everything on? I see it's got a Sparco racing seat. What racing seat is this? I've been looking at Rseat, Obutto, and Playseat. Like I've experienced driving thousands of laps on it in real life. Whenever I watch Nurburgring videos on Youtube, I feel like I know every inch of that track. When have you last played Assetto Corsa? Do you have the dream pack? The Nordschleife is utterly fantastic and running that track alone has been the best driving sim experience for me. I set FFB smoothing to 0 and played around with the multiplier and all it did was make the wheel harder/softer to turn. It makes the tracks feel as if they are all perfectly flat and you really have to guess what the car is doing. Cars drive fine, but you still can't feel the road through the wheel. So I installed the update last night and played for about an hour. In fact, I have a 125cc Rotax Max go-kart that I bought last year to help with my driving, but I find AC far more effective and enjoyable than taking my kart out to the track. I can lap tracks solo for hours and have almost as much fun as if I'm at the real track. Not sure how you can say Assetto Corsa is not fun. If you use those tracks to practice for the real thing, you'll be in for a big surprise when you get there. I heard good things about Raceroom and quickly paid for the local Bay Area tracks and was sorely disappointed in how fake they were. Laguna Seca and Sonoma are nowhere near to proper scale. The problem with RaceRoom is the tracks are horribly rendered. In the mean time, RaceRoom helps my GF get to know the track better and better so maybe some day she can keep up with me in her GT3. If I want realism, Infineon is only 40 minutes away. It's a video 's supposed to be enjoyable, not work. Not sure how long it's been since you put some time into rF2 but over the past 6 months there have been some massive changes and it is now pretty widely regarded as benchmark in the sim racing community.ĪC is no question the best in terms of a simulator, but it's nowhere near the most fun. The new rFactor 2 tire model that came out last month is out-freaking-rageous, no sim on the market is even in the same decade on tires at this point. It's uncanny.ĪCs FFB is very good, but there's a reason why every thread about ACs FFB has a comparison to rFactor 2. Also AC is the only sim where I can come back from the real track and drive even better in the sim because all of my muscle memory translates and the cars react precisely as expected. I still think AC has a better tire model and FFB. RFactor2 is really good too, but the cars, tracks, and very dated look keeps me away. If you took a vet sim racer in each game and one day out them on a real race track for the first time, I'm willing to bet the one who played AC will be the best driver in real life. I'm not talking about graphics and features. AC is better when we are strictly talking about realistic physics and driving dynamics. His first stop was in Houston, where he joined back up with Harden and tried to forge a championship team with his old teammate. Once he left, it didn’t take him long to become a journeyman. After going so long without winning a ring, the Thunder traded him in 2019.įor most of his career, Westbrook was synonymous with the Thunder. Westbrook stuck it out on the Thunder for eleven years, but age and circumstances eventually caught up to him. While that was true for many years, it didn’t last. Not only did they turn him into a perennial starter, they signed him to several long contracts and committed to him being a cornerstone of the franchise. It wasn’t long before the Thunder saw Westbook’s value. They won tons of games, had a Finals appearance, and challenged for the Western Conference crown year after year. The pair, alongside great role players and James Harden, brought great success to the city. The Sonics (soon to be Thunder) took the high flying guard third overall in the draft, and they did so expecting him to team up with Durant to take over the franchise. Westbook didn’t have a huge impact in college, but he still went to the NBA with big expectations. Westbrook experienced a few of those, and it’s why he’s traveled more than most other top players. However, even if they still put up great stats, a player might leave a team due to personal disagreements, unusual circumstances, or they might simply want a change of scenery. Most of the time, athletes’ productivity declines and teams trade them. Especially if their organization isn’t on the winning side of things. Top NBA players can stick around the league for a decade or more, but staying in the same place for that long is no easy task. It is a truth of life that age catches up to everyone, and that includes great athletes. This time around we have USB-C charging which is faster than Micro-USB (if you use a rechargeable pack at least) and there's a 'hybrid' D-pad that takes its cues from a more premium Xbox controller that we'll mention later. It will be very familiar to Xbox One owners from the last generation but there are subtle tweaks that do make it an objectively better controller. Predictably, we've found it to work smoothly and beautifully via cable or the usual pairing mode, and it's got that excellent performance and comfort by default. So, is the result worth the money? Should you buy one instead of the Elite Series 2 - the current gold standard? It's a subjective matter best left in your capable hands, but if you do decide to invest, you'll find a handset at the top of its game.Īll things considered (so to speak), it really is no shock that we think the best Xbox Series X controller for most people is the official console controller - now also called the core Xbox pad. Even the thumbsticks feel bouncier and more taut than usual. They enable much faster responses than you'd find from the console's standard controller we're definitely not that quick on the draw in Halo the rest of the time. The trigger locks are right on the money as well. It's much more intuitive than the other alternatives we've tried - and we've tried more than our fair share. Because they form a shell of sorts around your index finger, all you need to do is press down or lift up to activate them. Rather, it's the savvy back button placement that makes them so easy to activate in the middle of a Destiny firefight or Call of Duty battle. That's not what stays with you when you boot up a game, though. Oh, and you can change the shape of the thumbsticks before checkout as well. It also has a satisfyingly ergonomic rubber coating at the front for better grip. Sure, you can mix and match designs ranging from simple color-swaps to golden Japanese Koi art. But if you can move past that, you'll find a genuinely excellent Xbox Series X controller with the best back buttons we've ever used. It's fair enough to be skeptical of the design-it-yourself Scuf Instinct. So much more expensive than the competition But it's probably the best bread and butter you'll ever eat.Īll in all, this is one of the top-performing controllers for Xbox and PC that you'll find, which in many ways, is no surprise. It's stripped back, simple, and you expect a more complicated course for how much you pay. It feels like going to a bougie, Michelin-star restaurant and being served something as basic as bread and butter. These are available to purchase separately and can be used with the Core, but they will bring the total investment back up to $179.99.Īlthough I'm disappointed that there aren't any attachments on offer here, and really would have appreciated some form of back paddles or extra stick caps, I can't seriously fault the Elite Series 2 Core. The Elite Series 2 Core only costs $129.99 / £114.99 and comes with the exact same body and features, but none of the accessories. The original Elite Controller Series 2 will set you back $179.99 / £159.99 and comes with all the customizable goodies you could ever need for it. In fact, these two gamepads are practically identical in every way, and the main difference is the accessories you get bundled along with them. It's quite tough to know what the differences between these two controllers really are - besides the obvious colour changes. The Xbox Elite Series 2 Core takes the high quality of the full-fat Elite Series 2 and brings it down to a more affordable price point, making it one of the best Xbox Series X controllers out there. No attachments whatsoever feels a tad stingy The best Xbox Series X/S controllers 2023 One to watch for this year, which we're eagerly awaiting, is the ASUS ROG Raikiri Pro - it looks like it'll take the market by storm. If you want something to give you a competitive edge, raising the functions of a controller closer to a mouse and keyboard, there are plenty of back button options to be had. We've gathered together a list of the best Xbox series X controllers down below, and we're continually testing and updating our findings. Do you want something that fits your hand shape a bit better? If so, you might be able to forgo some pricier options. The easiest way to determine which gamepad is for you is by thinking about what features you'll get the most use out of. That's excellent value for money, especially if you're spreading your library across a range of devices. Candidates for the best Xbox One controllers will likely work too, and vice versa. Due to excellent forward, backward, (and sideways - many of these gamepads double as some of the best PC controllers) compatibility, a lot of the best Xbox Series X controllers are also top Series S contenders. |
